"The true purpose of education is to develop the soul - which included the body, mind, heart and spirit. It includes initiation into LISTENING to and feeling our place in nature and in a universe far larger than ourselves. It includes initiation into coherent relations in community and with the earth. It includes learning how to USE the mind in service to life paths (work/careers) that serve all of life. So, I see the real purpose is to educate people to live and work and love in harmony with life. Just educating the mind is a terrible flattening of the soul, and of our indigenous intelligence."

I would like to have an unschooling meeting in Santa Fe in August.  It would be nice to just talk and brainstorm about what "unschooling" means in practical terms--especially since September is around the corner and my daughter (14) and I are, again, trying to figure out what is a good fit for her...she feels so alone..Anybody interested? thank u for being conscious parents.  my observations as 'aunty' for decades has brought me to writing an 'ebook' on F.O.O.D. so parents who 'wanna be' conscious - can have a 'handbook'.  each book funds my current research for a diff. kind of kids education; sustainable living camps is what its looking like, on Molokai and in Australia, where i'm traveling and setting up on a farm here.  thx for passing on the info, to keep our circle of friends 'afloat'.  Excerpt from ebook, called, The Body Garden, found at:  http://www.lightjourney.net/retreats/lightjourney/ebook2.html

There is an unschooling conference in Australia in October. It looks great. We hopefully will attend. I want the "unschooling" experience for my children aged 5, 3 and 2. The eldest is currently in kindy at a Steiner school. I want to see my children make discoveries and then discover the world with them, with eyes renews as this "unschooling" idea I feel is such a natural process. It seems to me it can be such an honest and nurturing way to live.

Idea: What if people in this group put in $10 a week to have their own unschooling interactive/resource space online? I will happily create it for you and design it exactly how you want it! It can grow organically and be customised to suit the needs of Ringing Cedars Unschoolers - after a few months of co-creating it can run itself and become free. MAybe after that - new people can pay for a little while to fund new ideas? Who thinks the beginnings of a Ringing Cedars University for Unschoolers sounds cool?
